This 79,500 SF renovation project consisted of demolition of the existing 1984 expansion, a partial interior renovation of existing library, and construction of a new library. The project provided an opportunity to blend five eras of construction (1904, 1907, 1940, 1985, and 2014). Spaces included library, flex rooms for meeting and conferences, a children's room, a teen lounge, restrooms, an automated book sort facility, storage and administrative spaces. The library is LEED Gold certified.
A unique aspect to this project was the huge volume of books that had to be relocated to temporary space and then returned to the renovated library upon project completion. Hear more about their story and their move in this video.
