Home Letter From Sid Featured Projects Field Profile In The Spotlight Beyond Brick & Mortar Environments

Overall, 2011 was a good year for The Samuels Group considering the construction industry is still challenged by slow economic recovery. According to a recent report published by McGraw Hill Construction, nonresidential building construction starts for the first eleven months of 2011 came in 4% below a year ago. Regionally, Construction starts in the Midwest were down 12%. This translates into fewer project opportunities with increased competition. Despite the market conditions, we secured many projects during 2011 including the University of Iowa Indoor Practice Facility, Rock Haven Skilled Nursing Facility, Woodson Art Museum, Sacred Heart Hospital Curtain Wall Replacement, and ongoing projects at Upper Iowa University. The Samuels Group was also selected as one of the top tier construction managers for the State of Iowa and is currently working on a variety of projects for the state. Work completed for the year included the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport, Lac Du Flambeau Natural Resource Building and UIU Student Center. The Green Lake Government Center project won the 2011 AGC Build Wisconsin Award. This was exciting because it was our first large project that included the services of both our construction and interior furnishings teams (Samuels Group | Environments).

Throughout the year, The Samuels Group added to our construction backlog and to our staff. Ten new employees joined our team throughout 2011. Recent hires include Nicole Sletten as Project Administrator, Daena Fleischhacker in accounting and Tim Vick as Safety Director.

Tim Vick, our new safety director will lead our safety efforts in 2012. We intend on continuing to break safety records in the new year and we’re very close to a few major milestones. The Samuels Group just recently passed 900,000 hours without a lost time accident and on January 13th we’ll be surpassing 9 years without a lost time accident. We predict that later this year we’ll be surpassing 1 million man hours without a lost time accident. Although it may seem routine to hear about our ever increasing safety figures, the effort put into extending that safety record is anything but routine. A lot of hard work and commitment is put into accomplishing these goals every year.

As we continue to grow our company in 2012, our continued focus is on safety and our clients. New staff and services will be added to meet your changing needs and you will benefit from our “ONE TEAM” initiative. “ONE TEAM” helps ensure The Samuels Group team works together to deliver an exceptional project experience to you every time. It prepares us to provide a high level, one-source of accountability for your projects by focusing on process improvements, communications within and between departments, and employee development. We are committed to strengthening our team, relationships, culture, and the way we do business so that we all enjoy a great 2012!
