Samuels Group Employees Provide Winter Coats for Children

Employees at The Samuels Group recently helped bring brand new winter coats to children in need this holiday season. The Neighbor’s Place, a Wausau-based organization that provides help to those in need through a food pantry, emergency relief and other services, compiled a list of 20 children in the Wausau area needing winter clothing items. Through The Samuels Group employee’s efforts, coats were given to The Neighbor’s Place on December 5th, 2011, fulfilling the needs of every child on the list at that time. The Neighbor’s Place then distributed the new winter clothing to the children as presents. Samuels Group employees who participated in providing the coats are pictured in the photo above and include from left to right, Melissa Springer, Shelley Rowe, Jeremy Kleman, John Treweek, Dean Henrickson, Brenda Skic and Sid Samuels.

Winter clothing is one of the most needed items in the community during this time of year and The Neighbor’s place has a continually updated list of children in the Wausau area needing warm clothing. To find out how you can help children this winter, or if you know a child who needs winter clothing call The Neighbor’s Place at 715-845-1966.

Torgerson inducted to Saint Clare's Foundation and participates in Honor Flight

Troy Torgerson, Director of Business Development at The Samuels Group, was appointed to the Saint Clare’s Hospital Foundation Board and participated in the 6th Honor Flight as a guardian.

As a board member at Saint Clare's Troy is responsible for attending board and committee meetings and events, participating in annual evaluation and planning efforts, assisting the board with fiduciary responsibilities, and communicating outreach and activities of the hospital to the community.

Troy's involvement with the Honor Flight began long before 85 World War II veterans boarded a plane to go to Washington DC on October 17th, 2011. Troy served as chairman for the Harley's Heroes ride in June and helped with fundraising efforts for the Never Forgotten Golf Outing in August. These events, along with donations, raised the $75,000 necessary to send 85 veterans to Washington DC to view the World War II memorial honoring their service to our country. While in Washington DC, the veterans also were able to see a changing of the guard ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider and visit other memorials in the National Mall.

In addition to his position in business development for The Samuels Group, Torgerson served in the United States Army for more than 20 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 2008. During the time of his service he was deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom and served in the vicinity of the Iraqi city of Tikrit. He is involved with the local Veteran of Foreign Wars chapter and the local Disabled American Veterans chapter and also organizes the Harley’s Heroes Disabled Veterans Benefit Ride.
