Wausau, WI – October 24, 2008 – Wausau-based general contracting firm, The Samuels Group, recently achieved another safety milestone by reaching 500,000 safe man hours.

Last week marked half a million man hours that employees of The Samuels Group have worked without a lost time accident.  This safety record is factored through the collection of all personnel’s hours without a lost time accident. A lost time accident is when a Samuels Group employee is injured during work hours and cannot return to work the next day.

"When it comes to safety, The Samuels Group emphasizes communication, responsibility, accountability, safety procedures, and training and education,” said Dean Henrickson, general superintendent of The Samuels Group.  “We continually strive to improve the quality of existing safety programs and subcontractor safety orientation and control.”

The Samuels Group’s safety program is taught to every associate working in the field or office, and all subcontractors working at every job site.  The firm’s belief is to have every individual return home at the end of the day in the same condition they left that morning.

“A safety program is only as good as its results and this is a remarkable milestone for a construction company of this size,” stated Kurt Berner, vice president of The Samuels Group.  “The Samuels Group has been recognized for our safety achievements by the Associated General Contractors of Wisconsin for the past ten years.”

The Samuels Group takes proactive measures to avoid accidents by starting each day with pre-task planning checks and stretching exercises.  This ensures that employees recognize a hazard before it could cause an accident while having their bodies physically ready for all tasks.

“This accomplishment could never have been achieved if it wasn’t for all of our dedicated employees,” said Henrickson.  “It is great to see such an incredible group of employees not only taking care of themselves, but also taking care of their fellow co-workers.”
