Do you have things around your house that are just taking up your space, but could be useful to someone?  Maybe it's some athletic equipment for a sport you no longer have time for, or the set of dishes from your college apartment.  Rather than throwing these things away, you might want to try Free Recycling.  Free Recycling is giving an item that you no longer use to someone else rather than throwing it away and taking up space in a landfill.  A network of mailing lists and online groups will help you get the message out about your item.  Others who might be interested can read your post and arrange a pick up with you.  Free Recycling groups generally have a set of rules that dictate the items that can be put on their list and other rules governing the transactions that occur between members.  The items you give away don't need to necessarily be in great condition either.  There are many people on Free Recycling groups that enjoy tinkering and might want to fix something like your non-working television.  I happen to do a lot of mountain biking and I slightly bent the back wheel of my bike late last year.  It was really time for a new bike and I recently purchased a new one.  This left me with an old bike I'm never going to use again with one slightly bent back wheel.  I didn't really want it cluttering up my garage so I'll be posting it to my local Free Recycling group rather than tossing it in my local landfill.

Here's a link to one of the largest Free Recycling groups Freecycle.org.  Freecycling is sometimes used as a generic term for Free Recycling, but Freecycle.org has trademarked that term which is why I refer to it as Free Recycling in this article.  Just type in the name of your city and you'll get connected to the local group you can join to begin Free Recycling!
