Try purchasing used equipment. The market for used equipment is already near $1 billion and represents the resale of hundreds of thousands of skis, golf clubs, treadmills, camping gear, and exercise bikes. If 5 percent of the money spent on new sporting goods were directed at used goods instead, Americans could save $250 million per year, enough to buy solar panels for twenty thousand homes.
